In the realm of art and its transformative power, few stories resonate as that of Expedito, a theater actor and cultural manager from São Paulo, Brazil. For him, art is not just a form of expression; it is a potent tool capable of positively impacting the lives of the most vulnerable individuals.

Six years ago, Expedito set foot on Mozambican soil for the first time. His initial visit was a three-week stint at an orphanage in Mozambique, where he dedicated his time to developing theater activities with children. The experience unfolded as more than just a creative endeavor; it became, in Expedito's words, "a different perspective of life, a different reality." Captivated by the warmth and receptivity of Mozambicans, Expedito took a year-long hiatus from his life in Brazil to engage in volunteer work in Mozambique and other countries in the region. He discovered a profound sense of peace and newfound wisdom in the Mozambican way of life.

"I have learned with the Mozambicans that life is today, it is now... it might not be anymore in a few instants," he explains.

What struck Expedito most was the palpable human side present in the people of Mozambique. "I felt I belonged here in Mozambique," he reflects. What began as a short-term commitment to Save the Children in Tete turned into a six-year sojourn.

In Mozambique, Expedito not only continued to build his artistic career but also dedicated himself to volunteer work. He acknowledges an essence in Mozambique that is often lost in the hustle of big cities—a genuine way of being and interacting with others, an appreciation for the simple things in life. His relationship with the local culture brought transformation to his professional life as well. As an actor, teacher, and volunteer, he began to question traditions and challenge the conventional culture of entertainment.

"What I do today has a direct relationship that brings a reflection to the people who will watch it inside the reality we live here," he asserts.

Expedito, now a cultural bridge between São Paulo and Maputo, strives to bring something new to his students, allowing them to challenge themselves and encouraging critical reflection on various subjects. In Mozambique, his relationship with the local culture has transcended entertainment, becoming a conduit for meaningful connections and transformations transcending borders.
