Born and raised in Montepuez, Xavier Ingange worked as an agricultural technician in the district of Balama. Because of the 16-year civil war, he had to move to the locality of Mieze, district of Metuge (Cabo Delgado) temporarily, and finally ended up living in Cariaco in the small port city of Pemba. In 2019, the lighting wind speeds of Cyclone Kenneth demolished his home with no hope of recovery.
"When I lost my house to the winds and floods, I had to spend two years sleeping on the terrace of the small office where I practiced my profession as a traditional healer. In August 2021, thanks to IOM, this new house was built for me and my son, which has improved our life enormously", says Xavier. "Life is not dignified if you don't have a place to live. Luckily, I now have this home for my family."
