Dr. Laura Nicole Tomm-Bonde is a Canadian national and currently serving as the Chief of Mission at the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Mozambique. She holds a Bachelor of Science of Nursing (BSN), a Master of Nursing (MN)  and a Doctorate in Philosophy (PhD) from the University of Victoria, Canada.

Dr Tomm-Bonde started her career working as a registered nurse in Vancouver, Canada, specialized in Bone Marrow Transplant & Leukemia as well as Public Health. After this, she worked in Mozambique between 2003 and 2007 as the Medical Director of Health and Nutrition Supplementary Feeding Programme at Samaritan’s Purse International, Coordinator at the Academy of Educational Development and a Registered Nurse (RN) at the United States Embassy in Maputo. From 2007 to 2009 when she began her master studies, she worked as well as an active Registered Nurse & Research Assistant at the University of British Columbia (UBC). In 2009 she obtained her Master’s in Nursing and became a Family Nurse Practitioner with all the credentials that accompany this. In 2009 she started her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and became a Primary Researcher at the University of Victoria as well as worked on a large research programme for public health as a research associate as well as practiced on the side as a Family Nurse Practitioner during her PhD studies.

Between 2009 and 2014 Dr Tomm-Bonde augmented her experience by working with various institutions in the healthcare sector and academics in Canada such as the International Union for Health Promotion, Student and Early Career Network (ISECN), Travel, Medicine and Vaccination Center Victoria and Kelowna, University of Victoria, as well as becoming the Strategic Leader for the Health Systems and Strategic Planning Department at Interior Health Authority in Kelowna, BC. In 2016 she obtained her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), from the University of Victoria.

In 2017, Dr Tomm-Bonde started as a consultant for IOM in Mozambique and shortly after became the Programme Manager for the Migration Health & Labour Migration Department. She served in this position until the end of 2019 and then became the Special Advisor to the Regional Director in 2020 for a short period then taking on the position of Officer-in-Charge for the IOM Mozambique mission. In May 2020 she officially assumed her accredited current role as the Chief of Mission for IOM Mozambique. She is fluent in English and Portuguese.
